The unfamiliarity of familiar_낯익은 것들의 낯 설음

현대사회는 개인과 개인, 개인과 사회의 갈등과 소외의 감정으로 인해 많은 문제가 생긴다.

서로에 대한 이해나 배려가 결핍된 사회에서의 개인은 한낱 부속품에 지나지 않는다. 존중 받지 못하는 느낌과 소외되었다는 감정 속 우리는 단절 되어 소통하지 못한다.

이러한 사회 속 soft sculpture는 재료의 특성적인 측면에서 조금 더 따스한 감성으로 우리네 삶에 다가가 사람들의 삶의 이야기를 담담히 풀어나간다. 작가의 작업은 형태의 관습적 이해와 재질의 불일치로 인해 일어나는 낯익은 것들의 낯 설음을 통해, 현대를 살아가고 있는 우리의 삶에 대해 새로운 관점으로 바라보게 한다. 일상 속 사물을 objet로 하거나, 현대사회의 문제점 등 우리의 삶 속에서 쉽게 접하는 주제로, 관람자로 하여금 본인의 생각과 작가의 생각을 비교하고, 고민하게 만든다.

작가의 따스한 작업들은 단순히 보여지고, 보고 끝나는 예술을 벗어나, 나와 너, 너의 옆의 그 사람들의 삶의 이야기로, 우리 모두의 삶에 대한 관심과 이해가 생기길 바라는 연결고리가 되었으면 한다.

Modern day society has many problems between individuals and the individual. These are caused by social conflicts and alienation. The lack of understanding and care between each other makes the individual, nothing more than a part of a component. We cannot communicate because we feel we are not respected.

We also feel we are alienated from society. Since we live in this kind of society, the artist wanted to take a soft approach to our lives and interpret our life stories using the special characteristics of a soft sculpture. The work of the artist uses the unfamiliarity of familiar things to makes us look over our present life with a new meaning. This unfamiliarity is made from using nonmatching materials to make a form which we have a customary understanding. The artist used common objects or common social issues that occur in our life as the subject. This easily allowed the viewer to think and compare thoughts with the artist.

The artist did not merely want to display his soft work and let viewers forget about it. The artist hoped that his work would provide a link that could make us understand and interest us about other people’s life stories which covered not only between you and me or the person next to you.
