현대미술 속 soft sculpture는 재료의 특성적인 측면에서 관람자로 하여금 시각. 촉감으로 따스함을 느끼게 한다,
작가의 작품은 형태의 관습적 이해와 재질의 불일치로 인해 일어나는 낯익은 것들의 낯 설음에 대한 작업이다. 작품 외관은 자연이나 현실생활을 정확하고 자세하며 꾸밈없이 묘사하는 예술적 경향인 사실주의의 경향을 따르며, 형태는 오로지 밖으로 드러난 겉모습만을 자세히 관찰한다. 그러나 차갑고, 딱딱한 소재의 물질특성을 따스한 감성의 soft한 재료들로 일상의 사물들을 재해석함으로써 시각과 촉각의 불일치로 초현실주의적 감성을 불러 일으킨다. 이로 인해 관람자는 사물에 대한 관습적 이해를 깨고 새로운 관점으로 작품과 사물을 바라보게 된다.
실재 하는 사물을 원래의 기능과 소재에서 벗어난, 새로운 감성을 추가한 독립된 작품으로 제시함으로써, 낯익은 사물들을 새로운 관점으로 볼 수 있게 함으로써 보는 이로 하여금 새로운 감성을 일으키는 상징적 기능의 물체로 만든다.
이는 일상에서 쓰이는 사물을 여성의 관점(소재의 재해석-Soft sculpture의 특성)으로 재해석함으로써, 원래의 용도나 소재와 형태에서 주는 느낌과는 다른 감성을 받게 하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 현실의 관습적 이해를 깨고, 새로운 관점과 시각으로 관람자 스스로를 돌아볼 수 있게 하며, 작가와 관람자 속 빈 공간을 치유하는 것을 목적으로 한다.
‘Soft sculpture’ is part of modern day art. It allows the viewer to experience the softness by vision and touch from the material used in soft sculpture.
The work of the artist uses the unfamiliarity of familiar things. This unfamiliarity is made from using non-matching materials to make a form which we have a customary understanding. The art work follows realism. It provides an artistic view in a way which describes nature or our day to day life accurately without any ornaments. We can look at the shape based on what is shown on the outside.
However, the hard and cold objects are transformed into a soft material which brings out the surrealistic sensibility. This is caused by the mismatch that occurs when what you see is different from what you touch. Therefore, the viewer breaks away from traditional understanding and views the work with a fresh point of view.
The artist wanted to make a symbolic object that created a new sense from familiar objects. The artist added a sense to this independent object that was made out of the original functional materials.
The purpose was to create a soft sculpture with a feminine aspect adopted to transform familiar objects (transformed material – characteristics of a Soft Sculpture) into a new type of material or usage thereby providing a new sense.
The objective was to heal the empty space between the viewer and the artist by making them breakaway from traditional thoughts of understanding. This would allow the viewer to think and see from a fresh perspective.
표지판은 아무도 그 존재와 의미에 대해 의문을 품지 않는다. 무조건 적인 명령이고, 따라야 할 규율이다.
무조건적인 의미.
우리의 삶에는 무조건 이라는 것은 없다. 서로 다른 수많은 사람들의 삶 속에 우리는 쉽게 남의 의견에 옳고 그름을 따지며, 그들의 행동에 반대하고, 의견을 금지하며. 하나 된 뜻을 따르고자 한다. 획일화된 삶을 줄 맞춰 세우고, 하나된 성향을 가지게 하는 것은 매우 위험한 일이다. 다른 의견과 생각을 금지 한다는 것은 억압되고 제대로 된 사회가 아니다.
우리는 모두 마음 속으로 무조건적인 잣대로 누군가의 삶을 반대하고 금지하고 있진 않은지, 생각해 보아야 한다. 서로 다른 의견을 가지고 삶을 산다는 것에 대한 존중과 감사함을 느껴야 한다. 우리의 삶은 표지판이 아니기에 우리는 무조건 적인 것을 넘어 행동하는 삶을 살아야 한다.
Nobody raises doubts about the meaning or existence of the signpost. It is just an unconditional order and a rule that should be followed. ‘Unconditional’ meanings. There is no ‘unconditional’ thing in our lives actually. We judge other opinions, object to others’ actions, inhibit other views and make others follow one combined will in so many others’ lives. However, it is quite dangerous to line up standardized lives and make them have just one tendency. It is not a proper society to suppress or ban different opinions and thoughts. We should think of whether we object to or inhibit other lives with our own unconditional standard in our minds. Rather, we should be thankful and respectful to the fact that we live in the world that different views can co-extist. Our lives not being a signpost, we have to live a self-acting life beyond an unconditional life.
가장 간접적이면서도, 또한 가장 직접적으로 나의 감정을 표현한다.
시각적으로 추상화된 표현과 진솔한 작가의 이야기가 합쳐지면, 작가와 관람자 모두가 공감할 수 있다. 지금을 살고 있는 작가의 삶을 이야기 하며, 작가와 관람자 모두가 공감할 수 있는 이야기를 한다.

작가는 작가본인과 현재를 살아가고 있는 한국인을 흰 토끼로 표현하는데, 빠르게 변화되는 유행과 정보사회에 뒤쳐지지 않고 살기 위해 밤샘을 일상화 하다 보니 충혈된 빨간 눈. 남의 시선과 소문 때문에 언제나 주의를 기울여야 하는 큰 귀와 빚에 치여 일만해 하얘져버린 얼굴. 늘 겁먹은 듯한 순한 얼굴 등은 현재를 살아가고 있는 한국인을 이야기하기에 알맞다고 생각하였다.
생태계의 최 약자인 토끼의 모습 속에서
한국인의 삶을 이야기하고,
고민하며 우리의 삶을 되돌아 보게 한다.
The artist compares a Korean’s life with the physical characteristics of a rabbit.
The artist describes Koreans as a white rabbit with red eyes from over work. Koreans stay up all night to be on top today’s trend and to keep pace with the fast moving information society.
Koreans are conscientious about how other people perceive others and need a large ear like a rabbit to listen to the small talk (rumors). In addition, they also look white (pale) from overwork because of the debt that they need to pay back. They look frightened and innocent like a rabbit as they move on through their day to day life.
The artist used the rabbit, which is the ecosystems weakest animal, to describe (tell a story) about the livelihood of a typical Korean so that they can look back into their lives.
